President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially inaugurated Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and KGPAA Paku Alam X as Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Region (DI) of Yogyakarta for the 2022-2027 term at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (10/10/2022).
With this inauguration, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X serves as Governor of DI Yogyakarta for the seventh time since October 1998.
In accordance with the Special Region of Yogyakarta Special Autonomy Law Number 13 of 2012, the Governor of DI Yogyakarta is the Sultan Hamengku Buwono, and the Deputy Governor of DI Yogyakarta is the Adipati Paku Alam.
This is one form of the special autonomy of DI Yogyakarta, where the governor and deputy governor are appointed, not elected through a general election.
Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, DI Yogyakarta has an area of 3,173 square kilometers. Administratively, the DI Yogyakarta region is divided into 4 regencies and 1 city.
The population of DI Yogyakarta was 3.68 million as of June 2022. The breakdown is as follows: 2.54 million (69.05%) are in the productive age group (15-64 years), 742,771 (20.2%) are in the non-productive age group (0-14 years), and 359,437 (10.75%) are in the unproductive age group (65 years and older).
