The Indonesian Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Task Force received 864 reports between June 5 and September 21, 2023. From these reports, 1,014 individuals have been named as suspects in human trafficking cases.

“The number of suspects in TIP cases is 1,014. The number of TIP victims rescued is 2,710,” said the Head of Public Information Bureau of the Indonesian National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan, in his official statement on Friday (September 22, 2023).

Ramadhan explained that the most common modus operandi was using victims as illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMWs), totaling 525 cases. The second most common was commercial sex work, with 283 cases.

This was followed by child exploitation with 69 cases and the exploitation of seafarers with 7 cases.

In response to the high number of TIP cases, the Indonesian National Police urged the public to remain vigilant against job offers abroad promising high salaries.

"The Indonesian National Police also asked the public to ensure that the employment agency is officially registered. This is necessary so that the public receives social, welfare, and legal protection," said the Indonesian National Police in a written statement.
