Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, September 25, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 1:32 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 5.18 millimeters and a duration of 163 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on September 25, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 490 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 puffing earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 329-401 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with an amplitude of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and a duration of 90-565 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral radius of 4 kilometers in the Northeast direction and 5 kilometers in the East Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,062 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,691 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 700 times.
