2023 Asian Cup Group E Standings: Jordan and South Korea Vie for Top Spot

Group E of the 2023 Asian Cup opened with a match between South Korea and Bahrain, held at Jassim bin Hammad Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Initially, the match was closely contested, before South Korea scored their first goal through Hwang In-beom in the 38th minute.

The Taeguk Warriors maintained their lead until halftime. Bahrain then equalized with a goal from Abdullah Al Hashash in the 51st minute.

Five minutes later, South Korea regained the lead, 2-1, through a goal by Lee Kang In in the 56th minute, assisted by Kim Min Jae.

The Paris Saint-Germain player then scored his second goal in the 68th minute, securing a 3-1 victory for South Korea.

Meanwhile, Southeast Asian representative Malaysia suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat in their opening match against Jordan at Al Janoub Stadium in the early hours of Tuesday, January 16, 2024 (WIB).

Jordan's first goal was scored by Mahmoud Al-Mardi in the 12th minute. A minute later, Jordan was awarded a penalty after a VAR review showed that captain Matthew Davies had fouled Yazan Al Naimat.

Musa Al-Taamari converted the penalty in the 18th minute. Al-Mardi then scored again in the 32nd minute.

Malaysia attempted to score before halftime but failed. After the break, The Chivalrous Ones added another goal through Al-Taamari in the 85th minute.

As a result, Jordan topped the Group E standings with three points, closely followed by South Korea, also with three points.

Bahrain and Malaysia followed in third and fourth place respectively, both without any points.
