Crimes Against Property: The Most Frequent Type of Crime in Jakarta

Crimes against property were the most prevalent in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported 6,220 such cases in 2020, a 28.5% increase from the 4,841 cases reported in 2019. These crimes included theft, robbery, motor vehicle theft, vandalism, arson, and receiving stolen goods.

Drug-related crimes also occurred frequently in Jakarta, totaling 4,827 cases in 2020. This represented an 18.1% decrease from the 4,841 cases reported in 2019. These crimes involved narcotics and psychotropics.

Crimes against the person numbered 1,976 cases in Jakarta. This category included aggravated assault, simple assault, and domestic violence.

There were also 473 cases involving crimes against property committed with violence, such as the use of firearms or bladed weapons. Furthermore, 338 cases involved fraud, embezzlement, and corruption, while 337 cases were related to public order offenses.

Crimes against morality, such as rape and sexual abuse, totaled 145 cases in Jakarta last year. Crimes against life/murder numbered 36 cases, and crimes against personal liberty totaled 35 cases.
