Wamena, the Most Populated District in Jayawijaya

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Wamena as the most densely populated district in all of Papua, with a population density of 371.69 people per square kilometer. It is noteworthy that unrest has again erupted in Papua, specifically in Wamena. This unrest was triggered by a misunderstanding involving a teacher who allegedly insulted a student with racist remarks. Many migrants were victims of this unrest.

Besides Wamena, Wesaput recorded the second highest population density at 116.69 people per square kilometer. Districts with the next highest population densities are Pyramid (84.07 people per square kilometer), Wouma (72.35 people per square kilometer), and Hubikosi (70.05 people per square kilometer). Meanwhile, Papua Province itself has a population density of 25.31 people per square kilometer.
