Youth Empowerment Program Yields Positive Impact

Indonesia is currently preparing to become a high-income country by 2030 and beyond to 2050. Simultaneously, Indonesia is predicted to experience a demographic bonus period between 2030 and 2040. This is when the number of people of working age (15-64 years) will be significantly larger than the number of people outside the working age range (under 15 and over 64 years).

Recognizing this opportunity amidst the drive to become a developed nation, Indonesia Business Link (IBL) has partnered with Citibank to establish the Skilled Youth Program. IBL is a non-profit organization with a mission to improve human resource quality, particularly empowering youth. They recognize that young people must enhance their soft skills and hard skills to contribute to achieving competitive economic growth and be prepared for employment or entrepreneurship.

This year, the Skilled Youth 4 Program was implemented in 5 regencies/cities across Indonesia. 1,048 young people have participated in the program, with 802 focusing on improving their skills for employment and 246 focusing on entrepreneurship. To date, 311 participants have secured employment, 31 have started businesses, 62 have scaled up their existing businesses, and 2 have scaled up their businesses in the socio-entrepreneurial sector.
