Yogyakarta Remains Highest, These are the Regions Most Avidly Reading in 2022

In 2022, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) became the region with the highest reading interest rate (TGM), scoring 72.29 out of 100.

Central Java came in second with 70.96 points, followed by West Java with 70.1 points.

The top three regions with the highest reading interest remained unchanged from the previous year, with all three showing an increase in their scores.

In 2021, Yogyakarta scored 70.55, Central Java 68.3, and West Java 65.34.

Aceh ranked last among the top 10 with a score of 65.85, while the national average was 63.9. This average also increased from 59.2 in 2021.

The index was compiled by the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) and processed by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).

The TGM score has a scale ranging from 0-100. Reading interest is categorized as follows: "very low" (0-20), "low" (20.1-40), "medium" (40.1-60), "high" (60.1-80), and "very high" (80.1-100).

The index components include reading frequency; number of reading materials; reading duration; internet access frequency; and internet access duration.
