According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the majority of Indonesian people believe their neighbors would help in times of disaster.
In rural areas, the level of trust is 82.83%, while in urban areas it is 80.47%. Although the level of trust is lower in cities than in villages, the majority of city dwellers still have good faith in their neighbors.
"Residents living in relatively homogeneous environments, in this case, without neighbors of different religions and without neighbors of different ethnicities, tend to have a higher level of trust in their neighbors," said the BPS in its 2021 Social Capital Statistics report.
"In addition, residents who live in neighborhoods where kinship ties still exist tend to have a higher level of trust," it continued.
The following are the percentages of residents who believe their neighbors would help in times of disaster, based on the level of kinship in their neighborhood:
* Mostly related neighbors: 84.06% believe
* Few related neighbors: 81.59% believe
* No related neighbors: 79.67% believe
