Children in Bandung Experienced the Highest Rate of Psychological Violence in 2021

Children are the nation's future generation, and their growth and development must be protected. However, in reality, many children experience violence from those around them, or even from their own parents.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 431 cases of violence against children were reported in the city of Bandung throughout 2020. Of this number, the most frequent type of violence was psychological violence, reaching 155 cases.

Sexual violence was the next most frequent type of violence in Bandung, with 69 cases. This was followed by 57 cases of other forms of violence. Physical violence against children was recorded at 55 cases throughout 2020.

Other types of violence frequently experienced by children in Bandung include economic violence (35 cases), violence related to child custody (27 cases), child neglect (26 cases), and child trafficking (7 cases).

Violence against children cannot be taken lightly, as the violence experienced by a child will significantly affect their development into adulthood. Severe trauma in childhood is also often linked to criminal acts and suicide.
