Ambon Was the Most Populated City in Maluku in 2020

Ambon City was the most densely populated area in Maluku Province in 2020. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the population density in Ambon City was 1,163.02 people per square kilometer (km²). This means that Ambon City has an area of 359.4 km² with a population of 347,300.

The second most densely populated area in Maluku is Tual City with 347.03 people/km². Following this is Southeast Maluku Regency with a population density of 117.76 people/km².

The population density in Central Maluku reached 53.19 people/km². Then, the population density in West Seram Regency was 42.2 people/km².

Meanwhile, the area with the lowest population density is Aru Islands Regency at 12.54 people/km². Above that is Southwest Maluku Regency with a population density of 17.88 people/km².

Overall, the population density in Maluku was 39.41 people/km² in 2020. This is because the area of Maluku is 62,946 km², while the population reached 1.85 million.

Furthermore, the population distribution in Maluku is still concentrated in Central Maluku, namely 22.88%. Ambon City follows with a population distribution reaching 18.78%.
