Natixis, a French financial sector company, released a list of the world's best countries to spend retirement in its 2023 Global Retirement Index (GPI) report.
The analysis covered 44 countries belonging to the IMF, OECD, and BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) groups.
Each country was assessed on four indicators: health, quality of life, material well-being, and retirement finances, broken down into 18 sub-indicators.
Based on these calculations, Norway ranked first as the best country for retirement in the world with a score of 83%. It maintained its position for two consecutive years.
This high score was largely driven by its health and material well-being scores. In terms of health, Norway is one of the countries that experienced an increase in life expectancy during the pandemic. From a well-being perspective, its unemployment rate is currently the lowest, at 3.8%.
Switzerland came in second with 82%, followed by Iceland with 81%.
The top 10 countries are mostly located in Europe. Only two countries are from Oceania: Australia and New Zealand.
