In 2023, people in most regions of Indonesia perceived a climate crisis.

This is recorded in a survey report by a collaboration between the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) and Unity of Trend (UniTrend).

According to CELIOS, a climate crisis refers to extreme changes in temperature and weather patterns.

This crisis occurs when the Earth's average temperature rises, triggered by the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stemming from emissions from fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, and land use.

According to the CELIOS and UniTrend survey, 100% of respondents in Kalimantan, Papua, Maluku, and Sulawesi felt a climate crisis in 2023.

Respondents in Java reported feeling a climate crisis at 99%, and in Sumatra at 98%. Meanwhile, those who felt similarly in Bali and Nusa Tenggara were only 45%.

"This study shows that the majority of Indonesians perceive the climate crisis as a real phenomenon," said the CELIOS team in their report *Towards Energy Transition: Messages from the People for the Future President*.

"Interestingly, 55% of respondents living in Bali and Nusa Tenggara felt that the climate crisis is not real. Further studies are needed to further identify this phenomenon," they said.

CELIOS suspects that the difference in perception of the climate crisis in Bali and Nusa Tenggara may be influenced by local temperature conditions that differ from other regions.

CELIOS and UniTrend conducted this online survey in March-April 2023, involving 1,245 respondents aged 18 and over.

Respondents were randomly and proportionally selected from all over Indonesia, spread across rural, suburban, and urban areas.
