Lewotobi Laki-laki Volcano Erupts Friday Afternoon; Alert Level Raised

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 5:08 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 27 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10.5 millimeters and a duration of 58 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 18, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 78 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 10 tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-10.5 millimeters and durations of 30-170 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 29 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,946 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,337 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 277 times.
