Y-Publica Survey: 51.7% of the Public Disagrees with Religion-Based Local Regulations

The Y-Publica survey institute released the results of public responses to religious-based regional regulations (Perda). The results show that 51.7% of respondents disagreed with the existence of religion-based Perda, while 44.5% agreed and 3.8% did not answer.

For information, between 1998 and 2018, at least 443 sharia-based Perda were enacted in Indonesia, and one gospel-based Perda in Manokwari. Based on the survey results, 33.6% of the public felt that these religious Perda had impacted the improvement of Indonesian human values, while 33.6% felt they had not had an impact, and 10.5% felt there had been some improvement.

The Y-Publica survey was conducted from November 20 to December 4, 2018, involving 1,200 respondents using a multistage random sampling method from 34 provinces. Data collection was conducted through face-to-face interviews with respondents using questionnaires. The margin of error is 2.98% with a 95% confidence level.
