401 Indonesian Doctors Died During COVID-19

The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Mitigation Team recorded 401 doctors who died due to COVID-19 exposure in Indonesia from March to June 25, 2021. The majority were general practitioners.

The details are as follows: 226 general practitioners, 170 specialists, and 5 resident doctors. Based on these figures, there were 4 professors among the 226 general practitioners and 18 professors among the 170 specialists.

The highest number of doctor deaths was in the 56-60 age group, with 61 deaths. The next highest number of deaths was among elderly doctors (66-70 years old), with 60 deaths. This was followed by 49 deaths in the 71-75 age group, 48 deaths in the 51-55 age group, and 47 deaths in the 46-50 age group.

Regarding specialization, the highest number of deaths was among general practitioners (226 deaths), followed by obstetrics and gynecology (27 deaths), and internal medicine (24 deaths). There were also 18 deaths among pediatricians and 13 among surgeons.

The IDI Mitigation Team urges the continued implementation of health protocols to quickly end the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent further loss of life. Especially since COVID-19 cases are still increasing.

On June 27, 2021, a record high of 21,300 new COVID-19 cases was recorded. The total number of COVID-19 cases to date has reached 2.1 million, with 207,700 active cases, 57,100 deaths, and 1.9 million recovered patients.
