Between October 7 and November 23, 2023, Israeli forces killed approximately 15,000 Palestinians. Around 14,800 of these deaths occurred in the Gaza Strip, and 211 in the West Bank.
During the same period, approximately 1,275 Israelis were killed.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) compiled this casualty data from official statements by the Palestinian government in Gaza and the Israeli government.
Amidst the heavy casualties, Israel and the Palestinian Hamas militant group will temporarily halt the war.
"Israel and Hamas have agreed to a humanitarian pause starting November 24, 2023," OCHA stated in its report on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
"The agreement will involve the release of a number of Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza, as well as the release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons," it continued.
According to *Al Jazeera*, the agreement for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was reached with the mediation of the Qatari government.
During the pause, Israel stated it would halt attacks on the Gaza Strip and allow the entry of hundreds of humanitarian aid trucks, including medical supplies and fuel.
However, the Israeli government ensured the war is not over.
"After this short pause ends, military operations will continue for at least two months," said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as reported by *The Times of Israel* on Wednesday, November 23, 2023.
Israel's Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi conveyed a similar message.
"We are not ending the war. We will continue the war until we win, and continue attacks on Hamas territory," he said.
