Bireuen's Population Food Consumption Deficiency Rate Increased by 7.62% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, reached 7.62% in 2023.

This figure is up 0.84% from the previous year's 6.78%, while it has decreased by 1.26% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Bireuen Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Bireuen Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy intake does not reach 7.62% of the total population.

Compared to 22 other regencies/cities in Aceh Province, Bireuen Regency ranks 8th in terms of PoU. The regency with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Nagan Raya Regency (3.43%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Aceh Utara Regency (14.24%).
