List of Countries with the Highest Suicide Rates in the World in 2019

In 2019, Lesotho had the world's highest suicide rate. According to the World Population Review, the suicide rate was 72.4 per 100,000 people; meaning 72 out of every 100,000 people in Lesotho died by suicide.

The primary reason for the high suicide rate in this Southern African nation is extreme poverty. A survey by the Global Burden of Disease stated that this country also had the world's highest rate of depression in 2017.

Following Lesotho, Guyana had a high suicide rate of 40.3. This was followed by Eswatini and South Korea with rates of 29.4 and 28.6 respectively.

Kiribati's suicide rate was recorded at 28.3, while Micronesia's was 28.2.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every 100 deaths globally is directly attributable to suicide. In 2019, over 700,000 people died by suicide – a number exceeding deaths from HIV, malaria, war, and homicide.
