Kompas Research and Development Survey: Majority of Public Confident Government Will Create a Secure Election

A *Kompas* Research and Development (Litbang) survey titled "Maintaining Hope for a Safe and Peaceful 2024 Election" shows that a majority, or 79.1%, of respondents believe the government can hold a safe and peaceful 2024 election.

The breakdown shows 7.2% of respondents answered "very confident" and 71.9% answered "confident."

"Public trust in this election is a challenge for the government and election organizers to present the substantive aspects of election organization—free, open, honest, and fair—to maintain the quality of the nation's democracy," wrote the *Kompas* Litbang team in their report on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The *Kompas* Litbang team detailed that, based on the respondents' socioeconomic status, this positive assessment was relatively evenly distributed among lower-class respondents, at 79.6%.

This was followed by respondents from the middle class at 78.5% and the upper class at 74.1%.

"It is hoped that public confidence that the current election will be safe and peaceful can be maintained until the voting process," wrote the *Kompas* Litbang team.

On the other hand, 19.8% of respondents stated they were not confident that the government could hold a safe and peaceful election. This consists of 0.6% of respondents who answered "very unconvinced" and 13.6% who answered "unconvinced."

Meanwhile, 6.8% of other respondents answered "don't know."

This survey was conducted on 1,364 randomly selected respondents using a stratified systematic sampling method in 38 provinces.

Data was collected from July 27 to August 7, 2023, using face-to-face interviews. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.65% and a 95% confidence level.
