Central Kalimantan Had the Highest Gender Empowerment Index in Indonesia in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a Gender Empowerment Index (GEI) score of 82.41 points for Central Kalimantan in 2020. This was the highest among all Indonesian provinces.

Central Kalimantan's 2020 GEI achievement was supported by female participation as professionals, reaching 46.12%. Women's income contributed 33.63%, while their overall involvement contributed 33.33%.

North Sulawesi ranked second with a GEI score of 78.98 points that year, followed by North Maluku with 77.28 points.

South Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi recorded GEI scores of 76.32 and 75.78 points, respectively. Maluku's GEI score was 75.54 points.

Jakarta had a GEI score of 75.16 points, while Yogyakarta's was 74.73 points.

West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) had the lowest GEI score at 51.96 points. Above it were Bangka Belitung Islands (53.03 points), West Sumatra (58.28 points), and Riau Islands (62.02 points).

The GEI is an indicator used to measure the implementation of gender justice and equality based on political and economic participation. Three indicators are used in the GEI: parliamentary involvement, participation as professionals, and contribution to employment income.
