This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, six countries still recorded an increase in deaths, and six others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are India, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, January 25, 2023, amounted to 79, with weekly growth exceeding 20 percent.
India recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 125 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded nine deaths, a 18.18 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Afghanistan, which recorded 120 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. For daily data, deaths in this country increased by 120% compared to the previous day. Deaths in Lebanon increased by 75%, deaths in Saudi Arabia increased by 25%, and Israel recorded 30 deaths (up 20%).
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 2,609 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 10.31% compared to the previous week. Following that, South Korea reported the second highest number of deaths with 231 (down 33.04%), the Philippines recorded 108 deaths (down 10%), Indonesia recorded 47 deaths (down 4.08%), and Thailand recorded 38 deaths (down 32.14%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 3,141. This accounts for 36.24 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,667. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 3,574.
