The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.39 million cases by Thursday, March 31, 2022. According to GISAID data, Kosovo recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 95 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Kosovo currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Djibouti follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 43.93 percent, with 308 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 0.33 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 307 cases.
Next, the increase in Omicron cases in Hong Kong rose by 22.47 percent to 1,150 cases compared to the previous week; North Korea saw an increase of 6,038 Omicron cases (up 17.27 percent); and India saw a 16.94 percent increase, reaching 46,152 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 9,420, a 0.04 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
