The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.83 million cases by Wednesday, November 30, 2022. China (PRC) ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 140.79 percent. GISAID recorded 667 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 140.79 percent compared to the previous day.
Algeria follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 20.86 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported was 365. Daily statistics show a 12.31 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 325 cases.
Next is Vietnam, with 4,621 additional Omicron cases (up 10.13%), Benin with a 9.15 percent increase in Omicron cases to 513 compared to the previous week, and Peru with 22,929 additional Omicron cases (up 7.91%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 28,649, a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
