Indonesia's export market share of cigarettes decreased due to the impact of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. This is reflected in the 5.23% decline in the value of Indonesia's tobacco processing industry exports to US$1.09 billion, or approximately Rp 15.26 trillion, in 2020.
Specifically, the value of kretek cigarette exports amounted to US$776.1 million in 2020, down 5.79% compared to the previous year's US$823.8 million. Processed tobacco exports amounted to US$222.5 million in 2020, down 9.8% compared to 2019's US$246.9 million.
Only exports of cigars and other cigarettes saw an increase of 15.86%, rising from US$76.73 million in 2019 to US$88.4 million last year.
Meanwhile, the largest tobacco processing industry exports originated from East Java, with a value of US$522.8 million. This was followed by North Sumatra and West Java, with tobacco processing industry export values of US$261.9 million and US$118.7 million respectively.
Cambodia was the main destination for tobacco processing exports, with a value of US$248.9 million. This was followed by Singapore and Malaysia, with tobacco processing export values of US$131 million and US$100.5 million respectively.
