Indonesia recorded 728 additional Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, marking the highest single-day death toll since the pandemic began in Indonesia on March 2, 2020.
The previous highest daily death toll was 558 on July 5, 2021. Furthermore, the average daily Covid-19 death toll has risen to approximately 500 since the beginning of July. An increase in the Covid-19 death rate was already evident at the end of June, averaging 400 deaths per day.
By province, Central Java reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths on July 6, 2021, with 232 deaths. This was followed by Jakarta (137 deaths), East Java (122 deaths), Yogyakarta (52 deaths), and West Java (48 deaths).
With these additional deaths, the total number of Covid-19 deaths in Indonesia reached 61,868. This represents 2.63% of the total positive cases, which reached 2.34 million. The remaining cases are categorized as recovered (83.51%) and active (13.8%).
One measure to reduce the death toll is to curb the spread of the coronavirus. This can be achieved by diligently adhering to the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands with soap.
