The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.4 million cases by Wednesday, March 29, 2023. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 2.32 million cases. This represents 36.29 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom reported a 0.3 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.03 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Germany reported 560,000 Omicron cases (a two percent increase). Japan saw a 0.62 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 397,470 compared to the previous week, while Denmark reported a 0.23 percent increase, reaching 353,750 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 34,778, a 0.08 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
