Indonesia's COVID-19 positivity rate surpasses the World Health Organization (WHO) safety threshold across all provinces. Based on Ministry of Health data, the national weekly average positivity rate reached 29.3% up to July 4, 2021. The WHO, however, aims for a positivity rate no higher than 5% to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Lampung province shows the highest rate of coronavirus transmission, with a positivity rate of 49.15% over one week. Banten also exhibits a high positivity rate of 48.66% during the same period.
Gorontalo has the lowest positivity rate at 9.94%. However, even this rate remains above the WHO's safety standard.
The COVID-19 positivity rate reflects the ratio of confirmed positive cases to the total number of tests conducted in a region. A higher positivity rate indicates a faster rate of coronavirus transmission within that area.
The government aims to increase COVID-19 testing coverage to at least 1 per 1,000 people. This is an effort to bring the positivity rate below 5%. Testing must reach suspected cases (symptomatic individuals) and close contacts.
