Anticipating the rising impact of the Omicron variant, 142 regencies/cities aggressively conducted Covid-19 tests in the last week, exceeding the national average. Data as of Tuesday, January 17, 2023, shows a national average of 135.88 tests per week.
The top five cities with the highest number of people tested last week are: Samarinda (992 people), Kediri (991 people), Denpasar (964 people), Sukabumi (947 people), and Bandung Barat (913 people).
Samarinda ranks first. With a population of 873,460, 992 people were tested last week. The latest positive rate is 0.1 percent, lower than the previous week.
Kediri follows, with 991 people tested last week in an effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. The positive rate is 0.4 percent, also lower than the previous week.
Furthermore, 964 people were tested in Denpasar last week, 947 in Sukabumi, and 913 in Bandung Barat.
In anticipation of the Omicron impact across various regions, based on national Covid data, 211 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reported a higher number of people tested daily last week compared to the previous week. Conversely, 149 regencies/cities recorded a lower number of tests compared to the previous week.
Outside of Java, cities with the highest number of people tested last week include Samarinda (992 people), Denpasar (964 people), and Pekanbaru (815 people).
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing transmission by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
