Today, Three Provinces Record Highest Increases Since the Start of Reported Covid-19 Cases

Today, Tuesday, August 3, 2021, three provinces recorded their highest daily increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases since the first case was reported in each province. These regions are West Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Central Sulawesi. All regions broke their records since the first COVID-19 case was recorded last year.

West Sumatra province broke its record with the highest increase of 1,157 patients. Percentage-wise, the growth in confirmed cases in this area was only 17.82 percent. Today marks the highest record achieved in the last 30 days. Previously, the highest growth rate was recorded on Wednesday, July 1st. At that time, the number of confirmed cases increased from one patient to 16 patients.

Until yesterday, in this region, the number of cases according to the latest data as of Saturday, July 24th, for current COVID-19 infections by age group was: adults (31-45 years old) 16,900 people; young adults (19-30 years old) 15,880 people; early elderly (46-59 years old) 13,550 people; children (6-18 years old) 7,829 people; elderly (over 60 years old) 7,730 people; and toddlers (0-5 years old) 1,827 people.

The weekly bed occupancy ratio (BOR) in this region continues to show an upward trend. This morning, the BOR was recorded at 77.4 percent, up from 77.2 percent the previous day. The current situation indicates that West Sumatra has begun to experience an increase in service demand over the past 15 days. Previously, the BOR in this region was at 69.2 percent.

This is due to an increase in infection cases in the last week. According to data from the Ministry of Health, weekly confirmed positive cases per 100,000 population increased from 75.3 cases to 104.9 cases. In terms of infrastructure, the local government is also continuing to work on a scenario to improve healthcare facilities in line with the increasing trend of the pandemic infection in recent weeks.

Bangka Belitung Islands also recorded a record high with 831 patients. The previous increase in confirmed cases was 344 patients. Historically, yesterday was not the highest growth record ever achieved. Today marks the highest record achieved in the last 30 days. Previously, the highest growth rate was recorded on Wednesday, September 16th. At that time, the number of confirmed cases increased from one patient to 11 patients.

The number of cases in this region is recorded at 29,380 people, and 4,596 people are still under treatment. As reported by the Ministry of Health, approximately 53 percent of patients in Bangka Belitung Islands are female. From this region, the largest number of COVID-19 sufferers by age group are adults (31-45 years old) at 8,781 people. The smallest reported number is toddlers (0-5 years old) at 1,123 people.

The weekly bed occupancy ratio (BOR) in this region continues to show an upward trend. This morning, the BOR was recorded at 81.7 percent, up from 80.3 percent the previous day. The current situation indicates that Bangka Belitung Islands has begun to experience an increase in service demand over the past 15 days. Previously, the BOR in this region was at 73.2 percent.

This is due to an increase in infection cases in the last week. According to data from the Ministry of Health, weekly confirmed positive cases per 100,000 population increased from 215.6 cases to 256.3 cases.
