This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded fewer deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Canada, Guatemala, Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, August 15, 2022, amounted to 2,169, with a weekly growth rate above -2.04 percent.
Canada recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 24.68 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 197 deaths, a 16.88 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following Canada is Guatemala, with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 21.84 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 106. Daily statistics show a 2.75% decrease in deaths compared to the previous day, which was 109 deaths.
Next, deaths in Peru increased by 11.93%, Brazil recorded 1,499 deaths (up 1.77%), and Paraguay recorded 48 deaths (down 2.04%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 2,220 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 2.33% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil had the highest number of deaths with 1,499 (up 1.77%), Mexico recorded 418 deaths (down 29.51%), Peru recorded 319 deaths (up 11.93%), and Canada recorded 197 deaths (up 24.68%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were recorded at 5,142. This accounts for 35.89 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 14,328. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 5,338.
