This week's COVID-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Slovakia, Estonia, Belgium, Montenegro, and Greece. A total of 217 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Thursday, September 8, 2022, representing weekly growth exceeding 18.55 percent.
Slovakia recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 66.67 percent. Worldometer recorded 20 deaths in the country, an increase from the 12 reported the previous week.
Next is Estonia, which recorded 50 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported six more deaths than the previous week's four. Deaths in Belgium increased by 25.81%, in Montenegro by 25%, and in Greece by 18.55%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Russia, with 628 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 6.8% compared to the previous week. Following Russia, Germany recorded 577 deaths (down 0.69%), Italy 447 deaths (down 19.02%), Spain 323 deaths (up 13.33%), and France 294 deaths (down 11.18%).
A total of 3,350 deaths were recorded in Europe over the past seven days. This accounts for 29.8 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 11,240 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,941 deaths.
