Survey: Javanese Most Likely to Believe COVID-19 is a Conspiracy

A JakPat survey released on September 30, 2020, revealed that 31% of Indonesians perceive the coronavirus COVID-19 as part of a global conspiracy. Furthermore, 10% do not believe that coronavirus is a dangerous virus. However, the remaining 59% stated that coronavirus is dangerous.

Based on region, the percentage of people who believe the coronavirus is part of a global conspiracy is higher in the Java region, at 32%. Outside of Java, 30% of respondents believed this. Meanwhile, in the Jabodetabek area, only 27% of respondents believed that coronavirus is part of a global conspiracy.

Similarly, the percentage of people who believe that coronavirus is not dangerous is highest in the Java region, at 11%. Outside of Java, 10% of respondents did not believe coronavirus is dangerous. Only 7% of respondents in Jabodetabek considered coronavirus to be non-dangerous.

By October 5, 2020, the coronavirus pandemic had infected more than 300,000 people in Indonesia. Prevention methods include the 3M movement: Washing Hands, Maintaining Distance, and Wearing Masks.
