PT PLN (Persero) data shows that 1,380 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLUs) have been built in 956 locations across Indonesia as of April 2024.
"We will continue to rapidly increase the number of SPKLUs to support the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia," said PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo in a hearing with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Thursday (May 30, 2025).
Based on regional distribution, the most SPKLU infrastructure is located on Java Island, namely 966 units at 656 locations.
Sumatra Island has 165 SPKLUs, Bali-Nusa has 116 SPKLUs, Sulawesi has 64 SPKLUs, and Kalimantan has 54 SPKLUs.
Meanwhile, Maluku and Papua have the fewest SPKLUs, with only 8 and 7 units respectively.
In addition, PLN will convert 2,000 electricity poles across Indonesia into electric vehicle charging stations this year.
Darmawan said this step is an innovation by PLN to accelerate the electric vehicle ecosystem. This will make it easier for electric vehicle users to charge their vehicles.
"We have developed a strategy to convert our electricity poles into SPKLUs, so that the cost is also cheaper," he said.
Furthermore, Darmawan said, PLN will identify specific locations with many parked electric vehicles, such as apartments, and convert nearby electricity poles into SPKLUs.
