COVID-19 cases outside Java and Bali have continued to rise in recent weeks. As a result, the government has raised the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) level for several regencies/cities in these regions.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto reported that no regencies/cities outside Java and Bali were at level 4 on February 7, 2022. However, 37 regencies/cities outside Java and Bali were at PPKM level 3. Previously, on February 1, 2022, only 3 regencies/cities were at PPKM level 3.
Meanwhile, 259 regencies/cities implemented PPKM Level 2. This is an increase of 40 regions compared to the previous week, which had 219 regencies/cities.
Furthermore, 90 regencies/cities were at PPKM Level 1. This is a decrease of 74 regions compared to February 1, when there were 164 regencies/cities.
The government will continue to monitor the development of the capacity response to the increase in cases, such as the bed occupancy rate (BOR) in hospitals. Currently, the highest BOR outside Java and Bali is in Southeast Sulawesi with a 15% occupancy rate. This is followed by South Sumatra at 11%, Lampung at 11%, South Kalimantan at 10%, and Bengkulu at 10%.
The increase in the number of regions to PPKM level 3 means that several restrictions will be implemented by the local government. For example, restrictions on visits to shopping malls, children's playgrounds, restaurants, and places of worship.
