This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, one country recorded an increase in deaths, while 10 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, and Lebanon. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Friday, March 10, 2023, was 239, with a weekly growth rate above -18.18 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 91.67 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 69 deaths, a 7.81 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is the Philippines, which recorded 1.59 percent fewer deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 6.9% increase in deaths compared to the previous day. Then, Indonesia with 21 deaths (down 8.7%), South Korea with 78 deaths (down 17.02%), and Lebanon with a decrease of 18.18% in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 416 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 20.31% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 78 deaths (down 17.02%), Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded 69 deaths (up 91.67%), the Philippines recorded 62 deaths (down 1.59%), and Israel recorded 26 deaths (down 25.71%).
A total of 700 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 21.19 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 3,304 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 825 deaths.
