A report by Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reveals that 1.06 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia in April 2024.
This figure represents a 2.41% increase month-on-month (mom). Year-on-year (yoy), the number of foreign tourist visits increased by 23.23% compared to March 2023.
"The current number of foreign tourist visits is above the level at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In April 2020, the number of foreign tourist visits only reached 158,070," wrote the BPS in its *Tourism Development April 2024* report on Monday (June 3, 2024).
The BPS also stated that the cumulative number of foreign tourist visits from January to April 2024 reached 4.09 million. This is the highest figure in the last four years, a 24.85% yoy increase from April 2023, which saw 2.81 million visits.

Based on entry points, the majority (887,300 visits in April 2024) arrived through main entry points, with border crossings accounting for 179,660 visits.
Air travel dominated arrivals through main entry points, contributing 84.54% of total visits. Sea and land transport accounted for 12.72% and 2.75%, respectively.
Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang were the main air entry points with the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals, contributing 88.03% or 660,280 visits.
By nationality, the most numerous tourists were from Malaysia (170,600 visits, 16% of the total); Australia (128,000 visits, 12%); China (86,000 visits, 8.1%); Singapore (81,200 visits, 7.6%); and Timor Leste (61,900 visits, 5.8%).
