The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.61 million cases by Wednesday, January 11, 2023. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 0.97 percent. GISAID recorded 2.09 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.21 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is the United Kingdom, which recorded 0.72 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the UK increased by 0.05 percent compared to the previous day.
Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 1.3 percent to 344,940 cases compared to the previous week; Japan recorded 326,830 cases (up 3.01 percent); and France recorded 323,220 cases (up 1.39 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 32,263, a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
