This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 12 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 18 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Lithuania, Austria, Croatia (Hrvatska), Slovenia, and Slovakia. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Friday, December 30, 2022, was 189, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 27.78 percent.
Lithuania ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 88.89 percent. Worldometer recorded 17 deaths in the country, a 6.25 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Austria, which recorded 42.86 percent more deaths than the previous week. Daily data shows a 16.28% increase in deaths compared to the previous day. Then comes Croatia (Hrvatska) with 78 deaths (up 36.84%), Slovenia with 21 deaths (up 31.25%), and Slovakia with 23 deaths (up 27.78%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, France recorded the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Europe, with 853 deaths. Reported deaths in the country increased by 11.36% compared to the previous week. Following France, Germany recorded 710 deaths (down 18.76%), Russia recorded 384 deaths (down 1.03%), Croatia (Hrvatska) recorded 78 deaths (up 36.84%), and Hungary recorded 56 deaths (down 5.08%).
A total of 2,525 deaths were recorded in Europe over the past seven days. This accounts for 25.18 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 10,028. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,828 deaths.
