A survey by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that people's mobility decreased during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM). Since the policy came into effect on July 3, 2021, people have stayed home more.
Specifically, 34.8% of respondents reported not leaving their homes during the emergency PPKM. Previously, only 18.8% of respondents reported not leaving their homes.
23% of respondents reported leaving their homes once during the emergency PPKM. This percentage is also higher than before the emergency PPKM, which was 14.4%.
Conversely, the percentage of people leaving their homes 2-3 times decreased to 23.4% during the emergency PPKM, compared to 25.4% before the emergency PPKM.
The percentage of people traveling more than four times also decreased to 18.8% during the emergency PPKM. Before the emergency PPKM, 41.4% of respondents frequently left their homes.
Furthermore, those who did travel limited their destinations. The majority only traveled within the same regency/city. The number of respondents traveling between regencies/cities and provinces decreased.
This decrease in people's mobility aligns with the goals of the PPKM. Thus, the target of reducing the rate of corona transmission was achieved.
In addition to reducing mobility, people are urged to diligently implement the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap.
The BPS surveyed 212,762 respondents from July 13-20, 2021. The survey used a non-probability sampling design, distributed through a chain referral method.
