COVID-19 Cases Rise Again: Indonesia's Positivity Rate Exceeds WHO Threshold in July 2022

According to a report from the Indonesian Covid-19 Task Force, Indonesia's weekly Covid-19 positivity rate reached 5.12% in the second week of July 2022.

"This figure (positivity rate) has exceeded the WHO standard," said Wiku Adisasmito, Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force, as quoted from the BNPB Indonesia YouTube channel on Wednesday (13/7/2022).

The World Health Organization (WHO) sets a positivity rate standard of 5%.

Wiku stated that Indonesia's weekly Covid-19 positivity rate increased because Corona virus infection cases in July 2022 increased sixfold compared to the previous month.

This week, there was an addition of 3,361 new daily Covid-19 cases on July 12, 2022. In the previous month, there were only 551 new cases on June 12, 2022.

Wiku emphasized that the increase in Covid-19 cases should be watched out for. "Because this means the rate of transmission in the community is starting to increase again," said Wiku.

The public is urged to continue to implement health protocols, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
