Jakarta's Active COVID-19 Cases Surpass 70,000, Highest in Indonesia

The Indonesian Ministry of Health recorded a total of 70,375 active COVID-19 cases in Jakarta as of Wednesday, June 30, 2021. This is the highest number in Indonesia, far exceeding other provinces.

Three provinces in Java follow. West Java has 51,825 cases still under hospital treatment or self-isolation. Meanwhile, active COVID-19 cases in Central Java and Yogyakarta are 35,990 and 10,367 respectively.

Active cases in other provinces are below 10,000. Papua, for example, has 9,114 active cases. East Java has 8,840 active cases.

Banten has 6,005 active cases, Central Kalimantan 4,646, and Riau Islands 4,456. East Kalimantan has 3,933 active cases.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases nationwide is 239,368. This number continues to increase because the number of people infected with the coronavirus has consistently exceeded 20,000 in recent days. Yesterday, even saw a record high of 21,807 new positive cases.

The rate of coronavirus transmission must be curbed to prevent further escalation. One way to do this is by diligently implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap.
