According to the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) by the Ministry of Health, the prevalence of stunting in children under five in Southeast Sulawesi reached 22.7% in 2022. This province ranked 9th highest nationally.
Although the figure is still relatively high, Southeast Sulawesi successfully reduced the stunting rate by 7.5 percentage points from the previous year. In 2021, the prevalence of stunting in children under five in this province was recorded at 30.2%.
In 2022, 11 regencies had a prevalence of stunting in children under five above the provincial average. The remaining 6 regencies/cities were below the average prevalence of stunting in Southeast Sulawesi.
Buton Tengah Regency had the highest prevalence of stunting in children under five in Southeast Sulawesi in 2022, reaching 41.6%. This figure decreased by 1.1 percentage points from the prevalence of stunting in the region in 2021, which was 42.7%.
Next, Bombana Regency ranked second with the highest prevalence of stunting in children under five in Southeast Sulawesi at 35.3%, followed by Buton Selatan Regency in third place at 32.6%.
Kendari City had the lowest prevalence of stunting in children under five in Southeast Sulawesi, at 19.5%. It was followed by North Konawe Regency with a prevalence of 21.6%.
