This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while seven other countries recorded deaths, but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Macau, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Iraq. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, July 20, 2022, amounted to 33, with a weekly growth exceeding 80 percent.
Macau recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded three deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported one death.
Next is Vietnam, which recorded a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as two, higher than the one death recorded the previous week. Afghanistan recorded six deaths (up 100%), Azerbaijan saw a 100% increase in deaths, and Iraq saw an 80% increase.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 504 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 22.7% compared to the previous week. Following that, India recorded 311 deaths (up 24.9%), Japan recorded 168 deaths (up 48.67%), Thailand recorded 154 deaths (up 5.48%), and Israel recorded 112 deaths (down 4.27%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,697. This accounts for 15.81 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,737. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,651 deaths.
