This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Six countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while ten others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Paraguay, and Peru. A total of 637 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Tuesday, December 13, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 35.29 percent.
Mexico recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 373.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 142 deaths in the country, up from 30 the previous week.
Canada followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country increased by 130.6 percent, totaling 309. Daily death statistics showed a 713.16% increase compared to the previous day's 38 deaths.
Next, Colombia reported 32 deaths (up 100%), Paraguay 16 deaths (up 77.78%), and Peru 138 deaths (up 35.29%).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 1,305 deaths—an 8.16% decrease compared to the previous week. Brazil recorded 723 deaths (up 14.94%), Canada 309 deaths (up 130.6%), Chile 158 deaths (down 11.24%), and Mexico 142 deaths (up 373.33%).
A total of 2,848 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 32.32 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 8,812. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,570 deaths.
