This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, five countries recorded an increase in deaths, while three others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, Lebanon, India, South Korea, and Japan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, April 26, 2023, amounted to 400, with a weekly growth exceeding 8.33 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 162.5 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 21 deaths, a 16.67 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Lebanon, which recorded 50 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. For daily data, deaths in this country increased by 12.5% compared to yesterday. Then, deaths in India increased by 31.62%, South Korea recorded 48 deaths (up 9.09%), and deaths in Japan increased by 8.33%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in India with 179 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 31.62% compared to the previous week. Following that, Japan had the highest number with 143 deaths (up 8.33%), Indonesia with 50 deaths (down 27.54%), South Korea recorded 48 deaths (up 9.09%), and Israel with 23 deaths (down 39.47%).
The total number of [deaths] in Asia over the past seven days was recorded at 477. This accounts for 21.45 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,224. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 450.
