International tourist visits to Indonesia have decreased for two consecutive months. The Central Bureau of Statistics recorded a 4.54 percent drop in October 2017 to 1.16 million visits, down from 1.21 million the previous month. A 16 percent decrease in visits to Bali was a contributing factor. Previously, in September 2017, international tourist visits to Indonesia also fell by 13.67 percent.
Compared to October 2016, foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia still showed an 11.3 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase. Cumulatively, from January to October 2017, international tourist arrivals increased by 23.55 percent to 11.62 million visits, compared to 9.4 million visits in the same period the previous year.
Based on entry points, foreign tourists entering through the 19 main entry points in October 2017 decreased by 9.28 percent to 964,887 visits, down from 1.06 million the previous month. Meanwhile, arrivals from outside the 19 main entry points increased by 29.13 percent to 193,712 visits. In October 2017, Chinese tourists still dominated foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia, accounting for 14.47 percent, followed by Singapore (9.82 percent), Malaysia (9.78 percent), Australia (8.73 percent), and Japan (3.7 percent).
