Three Provinces in Java Lead in National Active Covid-19 Cases

Three provinces on the island of Java had the highest number of active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia as of Tuesday, August 17, 2021. These are West Java (59,686 cases), Central Java (31,619 cases), and East Java (29,780 cases).

Several other provinces also recorded high numbers. North Sumatra was still treating 28,315 cases, followed by Yogyakarta Special Region with 24,439 cases. East Kalimantan, Papua, South Kalimantan, Bali, and South Sulawesi had between 11,000 and 13,000 cases.

Meanwhile, active Covid-19 cases in two other provinces on Java were below 10,000. Jakarta had 8,916 cases, while Banten had 7,322 cases. These ranked 14th and 17th in Indonesia, respectively.

Nationally, the total number of active cases reached 358,657. This is equivalent to 9.2% of all positive cases. 87.7% have recovered, and 3.1% have died.

The public must remain vigilant against the spread of the coronavirus, including by adhering to health protocols. Wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap (3M) are effective in preventing infection.
