This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Ten countries recorded increased deaths this week, while eight others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, and Colombia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, July 18, 2022, amounted to 593, with a weekly growth exceeding 20.51 percent.
Ecuador ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 250 percent. Worldometer recorded 14 deaths in the country, a 6.67 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Argentina, which recorded deaths 58.33 percent higher than the previous week. Daily data shows deaths in the country increased by 1,040% compared to the previous day. Then comes Mexico with 414 deaths (up 37.09%), El Salvador with 14 deaths (up 27.27%), and Colombia with 94 deaths (up 20.51%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,752 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 15.04% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded the highest number of deaths with 1,749 (up 6.52%), followed by Mexico with 414 deaths (up 37.09%), Chile with 268 deaths (up 17.03%), and Peru with 140 deaths (up 4.48%).
The total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 4,790. This accounts for 45.02 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,639. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,339.
