With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, currently 159 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting Covid-19 tests above the national average. Data as of Tuesday, June 21, 2022, shows the national average testing rate at 0.98 people per 1000 population/week.
The top five, starting from the highest number of people tested per 1000 population/week, are South Jakarta (8.91 people), Central Jakarta (8.27 people), Balikpapan (5.58 people), East Jakarta (5.36 people), and West Jakarta (5.34 people).
South Jakarta ranks first. The number of people tested there is recorded at 8.91 people per 1000 population/week. The latest positive rate is 6.7 percent. The positive rate in this region increased compared to the previous week's percentage.
Next is Central Jakarta. The population of this region is recorded at 913,720 people. In an effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people tested is 8.27 per 1000 population/week. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 5.5 percent, or higher than the previous week's percentage.
Then, Balikpapan, with a population of 646,020 people, recorded 5.58 Covid-19 tests per 1000 population/week; East Jakarta recorded 5.36 tests per 1000 population/week; and West Jakarta recorded 5.34 tests per 1000 population/week.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the recapitulation of national Covid data, there are 239 regencies/cities in Indonesia that actively report a higher daily number of people tested than before. Meanwhile, 108 other regencies/cities recorded a lower number of people tested compared to the previous week.
Areas outside Java with the highest number of people tested include Balikpapan, Badung, and Sorong, with 5.58, 5.31, and 4.46 people tested, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission in some areas has decreased, the government urges everyone to continue to reduce Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
